Timothy Keown, President

Dr. Timothy Keown, Ph.D

President

Tim Keown developed a passion for South Carolina history and enjoyed teaching, even as a high school student. Dr. Keown received a B.S. and Master's degree in Agricultural Education from Clemson University in 2004 and 2009, respectively. He completed a Ph.D. in Educational Leadership and graduated in May 2023. Dr. Keown began his teaching career at Creek Bridge High School in Marion, S.C. He then taught Agricultural Education at Crescent High School in Iva, S.C. After a successful teaching career, he then served as the Associate State Director of Agricultural Education at Clemson University for five years. In addition to this, he served as the advisor to two State FFA Officers and two National Young Farmer Presidents. Today, Dr. Keown serves as the President of the South Carolina Governor's School for Agriculture at John de la Howe.

Gregory Thompson

Gregory Thompson

Principal

Gregory L. Thompson is a native of Augusta, GA with more than 30 years of educational experience. His responsibilities include creating a climate hospitable for education, monitoring student achievement, overseeing facilities, and hiring and evaluating faculty and staff. Mr. Thompson received a Bachelor of Science from South Carolina State University and his Master's and Education Specialist degrees in Educational Leadership from Augusta State University. Before joining JDLH, he served as the Hearing Officer for Richmond County School System in Augusta, Ga.

Kinsley Miller

Kinsley Miller

Director of Outreach

Kinsley Miller was born and raised in Edgefield, S.C. Her love of agriculture led her to earn a B.S. in Agricultural Education from Clemson University. In 2021, she received a Master of Education in Administration and Supervision from Clemson. Kinsley is an active member of the Edgefield County Young Farmers Chapter, South Carolina Farm Bureau, and serves on the Young Alumni Council for Clemson University. Before joining the team at JDLH, Kinsley worked for Titan Farms, the largest peach grower on the east coast.

Mrs. Smith is deeply connected to her family’s heritage in McCormick and has built a career rooted in service. She received her Bachelor of Science in Psychology with a minor in Child and Family Studies from Lander University and has spent much of her professional life in the nonprofit sector. She has also enjoyed having positions in workforce development that allowed her to mentor high school students as they shaped their futures. Stacie is especially passionate about seeing the vision of Dr. John de la Howe come to fruition as young people embrace and pursue careers in Agriculture.

Scott Mims

Director of Facilities and Maintenance

Mr. Mims is a dedicated leader in the community of Edgefield, South Carolina, with over 20 years of experience in the construction and investment industries. He is known for his strong business acumen and leadership skills.

In addition to his professional accomplishments, Scott is deeply committed to serving his community. He volunteers as a fireman and serves as a town councilman, working tirelessly to address the needs of Edgefield residents.

Scott's leadership style is characterized by his strong work ethic, integrity, and commitment to serving others. He is skilled at bringing people together, listening to different perspectives, and making informed decisions for the benefit of the community.

As the nation's only residential public high school devoted to agriculture, the S.C. Governor's School for Agriculture welcomes students to live on-campus in a collection of residential cottages.

Each residence hall is staffed by full-time and part-time Residential Advisors, who are responsible for the supervision of students outside of classroom time and for promoting the values and principles of the school. Our Residential Life department is headquartered in historic Shiflet Hall.
