This year marks the 50th anniversary of John de la Howe Forest being designated as a National Natural Landmark. In 1976, Secretary of the Interior Thomas S. Kleppe designated a total of 48 sites as National Natural Landmarks. The first group of designations occurred on January 7, 1976 (which included John de la Howe Forest), followed by additional designations on May 11 and December 8 of that year.
Congratulations to the John de la Howe faculty and students, Farm Staff, alumni, Foundation, and McCormick community on this remarkable milestone and thank you for your continued dedication to the stewardship of the extraordinary places designated as National Natural Landmarks.
